The sixth match of the IPL was played between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kolkata Knight Riders at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai. Bengaluru won the low-scoring match, but in the last over. The mistake made in the last moments weighed heavily on Kolkata. Batting first, KKR had set a target of 129 in front of RCB.

Tim Southee and Umesh bowled well for KKR to get the team back in the match. Southee took 3 and Umesh took 2 wickets. Bengaluru's top order was shattered, but Shahbaz and Rutherford shared a 39-run partnership in the middle order to cross the score of 100. After this Dinesh Karthik and Harshal Patel took the team to victory.

Highlights of the match...

1. KKR lost a big chance in the 19th over

KKR missed a big opportunity on the second ball of the 19th over. Dinesh Karthik played the shot and Harshal Patel quickly ran for the run. However, Karthik stood in his place. Both the batsmen were on the same end but Umesh Yadav made a bad throw. With no backup, KKR got a run-out chance. Later, the pair of Karthik and Harshal returned from the field after finishing the match.

2. RCB top-order piles up against Umesh's swing

Umesh Yadav, who became the player of the match against CSK in the last match, maintained his momentum in this match as well. Umesh dismissed Anuj Rawat (0) and former RCB captain Virat Kohli (12) in the first two overs. Anuj and Kohli were caught by wicketkeeper Sheldon Jackson.

3. RCB lost 3 wickets in the power play

Chasing the target, RCB had a poor start and the team lost 3 wickets for 36 runs in the power play. Anuj Rawat (0), captain Faf du Plessis (5), and Virat Kohli (12) were dismissed after scoring runs.

4. Hasranga sets the color for Bengaluru

Wanindu Hasaranga took 4 wickets while bowling amazingly. He dismissed KKR captain Shreyas Iyer (13), Sunil Narine (12), Sheldon Jackson (0), and Tim Southee (1). He leads the tournament with 5 wickets and now holds the Purple Cap. In the mega auction, Hasranga was bought by RCB for 10.75 crores.

5. Russell's short but powerful innings

On the fifth ball of the 11th over, Andre Russell hit a six of 94 meters in the direction of a cow-corner against Hasranga, who took 3 wickets in the match. Russell was dismissed by Harshal Patel by hitting 3 sixes in his innings. Russell scored 25 runs in his 400th T20I match.

6. Kolkata's last wicket saved the shame

The last wicket partnership was lost by KKR on the score of 101 runs in their 9th. After that, Umesh Yadav and Varun Chakraborty added 27 runs in 26 balls for the last wicket to take Kolkata to a respectable score. This partnership was broken by Akash Deep by dismissing Umesh (18). Varun remained unbeaten on 10 runs.

7. Special fielding for Kolkata openers

RCB captain Faf du Plessis applied special fielding to put pressure on Venkatesh Iyer and Ajinkya Rahane in the match. For Iyer, he kept a fielder at a deep point and deep square leg. Venkatesh was dismissed for 10 runs in 14 balls off Akash Deep in the third over. His catch was caught by short midwicket bowler Akash. Rahane also lost his wicket in the very next over after scoring 9 runs in 10 balls. Ajinkya's wicket was taken by Mohammad Siraj and caught by Shahbaz Ahmed on a deep square leg fielder.

8. Willie reminds Kapil

In the sixth over of Kolkata's innings, David Willey, running behind the short fine leg, caught a brilliant catch of Nitish Rana. Before Willie, in the fourth match of the same tournament, Gujarat Titans' Shubman Gill had also caught almost the same catch against Lucknow Super Giants while running 31 meters behind. Seeing the catches of Willie and Gill, the fans remembered the sight of Kapil Dev taking a match-changing catch in the 1983 World Cup final.
