India Squad Announced for Sri Lanka Test Series: Saransh Jain Earns Maiden Call-Up, Ravindra Jadeja Returns; Bumrah's Selection Hinges on Fitness

The BCCI has announced India's squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against Sri Lanka, beginning on August 15 in Galle. Shubman Gill will lead the side, with KL Rahul named vice-captain. The biggest talking points are the return of Ravindra Jadeja, the maiden Test call-up for Saransh Jain, and the fitness-dependent inclusion of Jasprit Bumrah.

 

The series will mark India's first overseas Test assignment in the ongoing World Test Championship (WTC) cycle.

Saransh Jain Receives Maiden Test Call-Up

 

Madhya Pradesh all-rounder Saransh Jain has been rewarded for his impressive performances with India-A during the recent Sri Lanka tour.

 

His recent performances include:

 

Unbeaten 70 runs in the second four-day match

Six wickets in the same game

 

Saransh also boasts an impressive first-class record:

 

2,223 runs in 54 matches at an average of 31.75

188 first-class wickets

 

His consistent performances have earned him a place in the senior national squad for the first time.

 

Jadeja Returns; Bumrah Awaits Fitness Clearance

 

Veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja returns to strengthen India's spin attack.

 

Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah and Sai Sudharsan have been included in the squad, but both will only feature if declared fully fit before the series.

 

On the other hand:

 

Nitish Kumar Reddy misses out due to injury.

Washington Sundar has been ruled out of the first Test because of a hamstring injury.

Batting Core Remains Unchanged

 

India is expected to continue with its established batting order.

1st Test: August 15 – Galle

2nd Test: August 23 – SSC Stadium, Colombo

 

The series is crucial for both teams in the ongoing World Test Championship 2025–27 campaign.
