
Aligarh, Jan 7 (IANS) A US-based alumna of the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) has gifted a 22-karat gold necklace studded with pearls for auction by her alma mater.
The university identified the former student as Afshan Hashmi, and said the jewellery also included a pair of earrings and a finger ring.
AMU vice chancellor Zameer Uddin Shah said: "We have accepted her gift with gratitude and put the set for an open online auction." The reserve price is Rs.5 lakh.
He said another former student had earlier gifted two gold bangles, which went for about Rs.7.5 lakhs in open auction.
"In the last case, the highest bidder donated the bangles back to the university. It is now in the university museum."
