The central government has asked Twitter to comply with all its orders given till now, giving the last deadline till July 4. Also, warned that if he did not do so, he was prepared to lose his intermediate status. If this happens, she will be responsible for all the content posted on the company's platform. Legal action will be taken against him for posting illegal content.
Till now only the user is held responsible for posting or going viral on illegal content. Action is taken on that. Twitter will also become an accomplice with the user if the intermediate status is passed. Twitter did not respond to the notice sent on June 27 by the Union Ministry of Electronics and IT. However, it was not clear on which tweet or account the notice was sent.
Notice under section 69A of the IT Act
According to sources, in the earlier notices also, he was asked to follow the IT rules of the country. Instructions were also given to remove any inappropriate materials under Section 69A of the IT Act, which he did not remove many times.
In strict words, there will be serious consequences
In a notice issued to Twitter's Chief Compliance Officer, the ministry said in strong words, "Twitter has been given many opportunities, but it continues to violate the instructions." This is the last notice. Even after this, if the violation of the instructions continues, then he will have to face dire consequences under the IT Act. Notices were also sent to him on 6 and 9 June, but he did not comply.
This is an intermediate status
Intermediary status is available under Section 79 of the IT Act, which does not deal with social media companies operating in India for illegal content posted by third parties.
On June 26 this year, Twitter released a list of blocked accounts and tweets.
Had to do it earlier too
The central government had asked Twitter and other social media companies to comply with the new IT rules issued last year. He was given a deadline of May 2021.
After a lot of strictness, Twitter deployed its Grievance Officer, Compliance Officer, and Nodal Liaison Officer in India as per the rules. Even then he was warned of losing his intermediate status.
