New Delhi. On behalf of COVAX, it is stated that the Serum Institute of India (SII) is legally obliged to provide the coronavirus vaccine globally. Covax' co-lead Gavi, the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization, told news agency Reuters that there is legal provision that could complicate matters of boosting domestic supply.
Gavi spokesperson said in an email that the infection cases in India had crossed 1.30 crore. As such, India suspended all major exports last month due to the growing demand for vaccines in its country. In this case, the agreement with Gavi is legally binding. Let us tell you that Gavi is a coalition formed under a public-private partnership, which works to deliver vaccines to developing countries.
Let it be said that earlier also on behalf of Gavi it was said that due to increase in cases of coronavirus infection in India, there may be a delay in the supply of corona vaccine as the domestic demand for Serum Institute of India will increase in India. The United Nations-backed program also announced a delay in receiving nine crore doses of supplies from an Indian vaccine manufacturer. Which is considered a major setback to the supply of ambitious vaccines to low and middle-income countries to fight the epidemic.
Recently claims were made that there is a shortage of corona vaccine in India, but Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan has dismissed claims of lack of Covid vaccines in the country. He has said that the central government is constantly monitoring the situation and the supply of corona vaccines is being increased to the states and union territories. Meanwhile, the World Health Organization (WHO) also said that 'Covax' can provide vaccines to all countries despite the reduced availability of anti-Covid-19 vaccines and increasing demand for them in India.
Covax, a global initiative to provide Corona vaccines worldwide, has so far provided these life-saving vaccines in more than 100 countries. So far three vaccine manufacturers AstraZeneca, Pfizer-BioNotech, and Serum Institute of India (SII) have supplied more than 38 million vaccines on six continents. Of the 100 countries that have been given vaccines, 61 are included in 92 low-income economies.
