When one of these customers saw the message, in panic, informed the police about the matter. The police immediately contacted the bank officials, then the whole matter came to known.
It was told by the bank that due to a technical fault, such an SMS was mistakenly sent to the mobile number of the account holders. He said that a software patch was in process in this branch of HDFC and that led to the glitch. The report quoted an HDFC official as confirming that all this happened due to a technical problem in the bank's system. Neither the bank's system has been hacked nor has Rs 13-13 crore been deposited in the accounts of these customers. Only the message had reached him.
