Azam Khan: Samajwadi Party's big leader Azam Khan has been sentenced to 3 years in jail by the Rampur MP-MLA court in the hate speech case. The court found him guilty of the inflammatory speech given during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections and imposed a fine of 25 thousand with a jail term of three years. However, shortly after the announcement of the sentence, Azam Khan also got bail. Azam Khan gave his first statement after coming out of court.
Azam Khan said, "I am on bail, convinced of justice. I have not lost courage. The doors are not closed yet, the fight will continue. The legal avenues are open now. Now I will appeal in the higher court."
By-election will be held on Rampur's Sadar seat
Azam Khan has been found guilty under sections 153A, 505A, and 125. In such a situation, his membership in the assembly has gone. For information, let us tell you that the rule for getting membership in the Legislative Assembly is that there should not be any major case against the MLA, which is punishable by two years or more. If this happens, then the membership of the MLA will be canceled for the stipulated time and a by-election will be held for the vacant assembly seat.
Can't contest elections on Azam Khan for 6 years. This is a major stumbling block in Azam Khan's political career and also a major hurdle for the Samajwadi Party ahead of the UP civic polls.
After being convicted, the membership of these MLAs of UP has also gone.
