History incomplete until Netaji mystery solved: Mamata

Darjeeling, Jan 23 (IANS) India's history will remain incomplete until the mystery surrounding the disappearance of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose is solved, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said Friday.

Paying tribute to Bose on his 118th birth anniversary here, Banerjee said he did not get the honour that he deserved.

"The final days of Netaji are still a mystery. What happened to him, no one knows. History is incomplete. There can never be a substitute for Netaji, one of the most inspirational people in Indian history," Banerjee said in her address.

"Netaji has not got the honour he deserved from the powers that be," she added.

Banerjee's comments come in the wake of a host of Netaji's descendants and historians campaigning for declassification of over 100 of secret files said to be in the possession of the central and the Bengal governments.

Following repeated denials by the central government to provide information about the files citing public interest, activists and rights organisations have moved the Calcutta High Court seeking declassification of secret documents and a judicial review on whether the documents should remain secret in public interest.
