Joint Secretary in the Union Health Ministry Lav Aggarwal said that after the confirmation of Omicron, necessary protocols are being followed. Of the two people confirmed by Omicron, one is 66 years old and the other is 46 years old.

 

At the same time, ICMR DG Balram Bharvag while addressing the media said that after genome sequencing, two cases of Omicron have been detected in Karnataka so far. He further said that we do not need to panic, but awareness is very important, and COVID-19 appropriate behavior is also needed.

 

At the same time, Lav Agarwal said that passengers coming from risky countries will have to undergo an RT-PCR test on arrival in India. If their report comes positive, they will be treated as per the existing protocol. If found negative then they will have to stay in home quarantine for 7 days. He said that many facts about Omicron, the new variant of Covid, are going to come out from science.

 

He said that whatever decisions are to be taken in the future, all those decisions should be taken only after the scientific facts come to the fore. He further said that the features, effects of Omicron are being understood all over the world right now. A booster dose of the vaccine is being studied.
