Improvement in the ranking of inequality in the country, India reached 123rd place; Concerns remain about the health sector

The level of inequality in the country has decreased slightly. India's position has improved in the CRII rankings released globally for its commitment to reducing inequality. India's ranking in CRII has improved six places to 123. CRII 2022 analyzes the policies and efforts of governments of 161 countries toward reducing inequality during the two years of the coronavirus pandemic.

 

The level of inequality in the country has come down

 

Norway has been ranked first, Germany second, and Australia third in the CRII ranking prepared by Oxfam International and Development Finance International. India jumped 12 places to reach the 129th position in 2020. This time the ranking has improved by six places. India's ranking has improved three places to 16 in terms of the progressive system of taxation.

 

India's position is not good in terms of expenditure in the health sector

 

India has shown an improvement of 27 places in terms of the impact of government spending on reducing inequality and 33 places in terms of the impact of taxes. India's position is not good in terms of expenditure in the health sector. This time the ranking has dropped two places to 157th i.e. India is the fifth worst-ranked country in this matter. In India, the share of expenditure on health in the total expenditure of the government is only 3.64 percent, which is the lowest among the BRICS countries.

 

Health spending manifold in other countries

 

China and Russia account for 10 percent of health expenditure, Brazil's 7.7 percent, and South Africa's 12.9 percent. There are 12 countries on the list where no fixed minimum wage has been found. India was also included in such countries in 2020. In terms of wages, the condition of many workers in the unorganized sector is very bad.
