The Indian team has overcome the big hurdle of New Zealand in the World Cup. It defeated the Kiwis by four wickets on Sunday (October 22) at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamshala. This is Team India's fifth victory in the World Cup. They are the only team that has not lost a single match so far. India has defeated New Zealand in an ICC tournament match after 20 years. Its last win was in the 2003 ODI World Cup.

This was the seventh match between the two teams after the 2003 World Cup. Team India had lost five matches. One match was canceled due to rain. It was New Zealand that gave an unforgettable defeat to the Indian team in the semi-finals of the 2019 World Cup. That proved to be Mahendra Singh Dhoni's last international match. Team India avenged that defeat by winning in Dharamshala.

Fourth win over New Zealand in the ICC tournament

The teams of India and New Zealand have come face to face 15 times including the finals of ICC tournaments i.e. ODI World Cup, T20 World Cup, Champions Trophy, and World Test Championship. Out of these, India has won only four matches, while New Zealand has won 10. One match has been canceled due to rain.

Now won after 1987 and 2003

Team India had defeated New Zealand twice in the 1987 World Cup. After this, they were defeated by seven wickets in the 2003 World Cup. Then Team India failed to win over New Zealand in any ICC tournament. Now India has broken that losing streak.
