By-elections will be held on these seven seats

Voting is being held on seven assembly seats in the country on Tuesday. Voting for by-elections is being held in Ghosi (Uttar Pradesh), Dumri (Jharkhand), Dhanpur, Boxanagar (Tripura), Bageshwar (Uttarakhand), Dhupguri (West Bengal) and Puthupalli (Kerala). It is noteworthy that most discussion is taking place about the Ghosi seat of Uttar Pradesh, from where BJP's Dara Singh Chauhan is contesting. At the same time, the counting of votes will take place on 8 September.

Let's have a look at these seven assembly seats-

Ghosi, Uttar Pradesh

The seat here became vacant after the resignation of Samajwadi Party (SP) MLA Dara Singh Chauhan. Dara Singh Chauhan has rejoined the BJP. Chauhan is now contesting from the same seat on an NDA ticket, while Samajwadi Party candidate Sudhakar Singh has received the support of Congress and Left parties.

Let us tell you that he has also been a minister in Yogi Adityanath's government. Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav, while addressing an election meeting a few days ago, had said that there would be a change in this seat i.e. Samajwadi Party will win.

The clash between TMC and BJP in West Bengal

Dhupguri Assembly constituency in North Bengal is witnessing a triangular contest between the Trinamool Congress, the BJP, and the Congress-backed CPI(M). While TMC had won this seat in 2016, BJP had won this seat in 2021.

This seat had become vacant after the death of BJP's Bishnu Pada Ray. BJP has fielded Taapsee Roy as its candidate. Whereas TMC has shown confidence in Nirmal Chandra Roy. Ishwar Chandra Roy is in the fray from CPI(M).

By-elections on given seats in Tripura

By-elections are being held on two assembly seats of Tripura. Under the leadership of Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha, the BJP has placed its full stake in both seats.

The main opposition parties Tipra Motha and Congress stayed away. Tripura Pradesh Congress on Sunday urged people to vote for opposition Bloc India candidates on two seats.

The Congress has decided to support the CPI(M), although it had initially expressed dissatisfaction over the announcement of candidates by the CPI(M) without any consultation.

Three days ago, TIPRA Motha announced not to support anyone in the by-elections, although CPI(M) claimed that TIPRA Motha is campaigning for CPI(M) in the two constituencies. Opposition leader Animesh Debbarma said, "Our party did not field candidates and also decided not to support the BJP or the CPI(M)."

INDIA in Jharkhand vs. NDA

In Dumri, Jharkhand, India Block candidate Baby Devi is contesting against NDA's Yashoda Devi. The by-election had become necessary after the death of former education minister and JMM MLA Jagarnath Mahato in April. Mahato has been represented in this seat since 2004.

Congress vs CPI (M) fight in Kerala

There is a fight between Congress and the ruling party in Puthuppalli, Kerala. Chandy Oommen, son of Oommen Chandy, is the candidate of the Congress-led UDF opposition. The ruling Left has once again fielded DYFI leader Jack C. Thomas as its candidate. BJP gave a ticket to its Kottayam district president G Lijinlal.

Direct fight between BJP and Congress in Bageshwar

There is a direct contest between BJP and Congress in Uttarakhand. The ruling BJP has fielded Parvati Das to retain the seat. Her husband Chandan Das has won four consecutive elections since 2007 and her death necessitated a by-election.
