First: Every year 83 thousand people die due to severe heat in India.
Second: In India, 6.50 lakh people die every year due to severe cold.
Third: Due to disaster and climate change, 5 million people have to migrate every year to India.
It is not the fault of the people of India who are suffering from extreme weather. At the Climate Change Conference held in Bonn city of Germany, India blamed rich countries for all this and asked them to compensate for the expenses incurred for this.
India's stand in front of rich countries like America is that 'Because of you, the heat has increased in the world. You are also responsible for floods and droughts. So now you have to make up for it too.
10% of the world's population releases 52% of carbon
The powerful countries of the world have been pressurizing India to use less coal by citing climate change, but from June 6 to June 16, India has shown a mirror to rich countries in the Climate Change Conference held in Bonn city of Germany.
India stated that 10% of the world's population is responsible for giving up 52% of carbon. According to The Lancet, the US alone releases 40% of carbon.
Because of these reasons, people around the world are facing climate change, heat waves, floods, and droughts. To deal with these extreme weather conditions, about 7 lakh crore rupees are spent every year in India. India has demanded that rich countries compensate for this expenditure.
India said that this money from developed countries will prove to help developed countries to eliminate the problem of carbon and to create better infrastructure.
Rich country reneged on promising to give 7.80 lakh crores
Developed countries at the 2009 Copenhagen summit had promised to pay Rs 7.80 lakh crore annually by 2020 as fines to developing countries like India. This fund was to be used to reduce the carbon emissions of developing countries, but developed countries went back on their promise, so it could not happen.
In a report by The Hindu, Professor Navroz K. Dubash wrote – This fund, known as Climate Finance, was to cost more than $ 7 thousand crores by 2022, but only $ 4 thousand crores could be spent, that too not properly. So far India has got negligible money in this item.
Big changes and technologies are needed to eliminate dependence on coal. The biggest obstacle in this is also the lack of funding in the form of fines from the developed countries responsible for releasing more than 90% of the carbon. This is the reason why India is still using coal to generate electricity.
50% consumption of goods made in India in developed countries
Developed countries, which prevent India and China from using coal, use most of the products produced here on their own. Developing and poor countries use coal to make these goods.
In such a situation, the developed countries of the Global North should reduce their consumption along with putting pressure on India. Only 24% of the world's population lives in developed countries, while the use of things there accounts for 50% to 90% of the world's consumption.
