Jammu, Jan 26 (IANS) A ceremonial border meeting was held Monday between the Indian and Chinese armies on the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said.

"A ceremonial border personnel meeting on the occasion of the 66th Republic Day was held today (Monday) at the Indian border personnel meeting point hut in Chushul sector of eastern Ladakh," said a defence statement issued by the Indian Army's Northern Command headquarters in Udhampur town.

The Indian delegation was led by Brigadier J.K.S. Virk and the Chinese side by Senior Colonel Fanjun.

The meeting commenced after the tricolour was saluted by both the delegations.

It was followed by ceremonial addresses by both sides, which included exchange of greetings, best wishes and which "reflected the mutual desire for enhancing border defence cooperation".

A cultural programme showcasing vibrant Indian culture and traditional grandeur was organised.

The delegations interacted in a "free, congenial and cordial environment" and parted "amidst feeling of friendship and commitment" towards enhancing cordial relations and maintaining peace along the LAC, the statement said.

They also agreed to uphold the pacts and protocol signed between the two governments to maintain peace and tranquillity along the LAC.
