Today's morning was special. Leaving behind old memories, we stepped into the new year. While 2024 was spent sometimes in sorrow, and sometimes in happiness, now a lot of good things are expected from the new year. There are going to be many such political events in 2025, which every Indian will keep an eye on. While at the beginning of the year, the people of Delhi will decide their future for five years, at the end of the year, the political fate of the two alliances will be decided in the Bihar elections. Apart from this, a lot is going to happen in the field of politics. Let us know some big political events that will happen in 2025...

For whom is Delhi far, and for whom is it near?

By the end of the year, the excitement of Delhi Assembly elections has started. Elections are to be held in the capital in February this year. This election is going to be very important because many big leaders of Delhi's ruling party AAP remained in jail on corruption charges. Party chief Arvind Kejriwal himself remained in jail for about five months in the alleged Delhi liquor scam. In this election, AAP will want to score a fourth victory in Delhi, while BJP will also try to return to Delhi after decades. Congress, which has not opened its account for the last two times, will also try to give a tough fight by fielding big faces in the election fray this time.

Let us tell you that the last assembly elections were held in February 2020. After the election, the Aam Aadmi Party formed the government in the state with a huge majority. AAP won 62 out of 70 seats, while the BJP candidate was successful on eight seats. With this, Arvind Kejriwal became the Chief Minister for the third consecutive time. The term of the Delhi Assembly is going to end on 15 February 2025.

Agnipariksha of NDA vs India in Bihar elections

Among the biggest developments of this year will also be the Bihar Assembly elections. Elections are going to be held in October or November 2025 for all 243 assembly seats. While the NDA led by Nitish Kumar in power will hope to return to power, on the other hand, the opposition alliance India will also try to show its strength.

The last assembly elections in Bihar were held in three phases in October-November 2020. The NDA came to power with 125 seats out of 243. On the other hand, the main opposition Grand Alliance won 110 seats. After the elections, the current Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was elected as the leader of the NDA in Bihar and was again sworn in as the Chief Minister. Along with Nitish, two Deputy Chief Ministers Tarkishore Prasad and Renu Devi were also included in the cabinet.

However, in August 2022, Nitish left the NDA and joined the Grand Alliance. In January 2024, Nitish Kumar changed the alliance once again. Nitish resigned as CM in the Grand Alliance government and formed a new government with the BJP. This was not the first time Nitish Kumar left the Grand Alliance and joined the BJP-led NDA alliance. In this way, JDU changed partners for the fourth time but interestingly, Nitish Kumar became the Chief Minister every time. Although the number of MLAs in his party was less than his ally.

By-election possible for Lok Sabha seat in West Bengal

A by-election may also be held on the Basirhat Lok Sabha seat in West Bengal next year. Trinamool MP from Basirhat Haji Nurul Islam died on 25 September 2024. The 61-year-old Trinamool Congress MP was suffering from cancer. The Election Commission did not announce a by-election on this seat in 2024 due to a petition. BJP candidate Rekha Patra had challenged the victory of Trinamool Congress in the Calcutta High Court and the matter is still in court.

In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the result of Basirhat Lok Sabha constituency went in favor of TMC. Here its candidate Haji Nurul Islam defeated BJP's Rekha Patra by more than 3.3 lakh votes. Rekha Patra had raised the issue of atrocities against women in Sandeshkhali of Basirhat Lok Sabha constituency. The area came into the news on January 5, 2024, when the ED team was attacked by a mob near the premises of suspended TMC leader Sheikh Shahjahan.
