Indian Navy Chief Admiral R Hari Kumar on Tuesday said that from the production of ships and submarines to parts and weapons, the Indian Navy will be completely self-sufficient by 2047.
Admiral Kumar told a defense conference that there is a lot to be learned from the Russia-Ukraine conflict, which has seen the use of new technologies, cyberspace, and all kinds of precision ammunition. He said the conflict between the two countries has underlined the need for 'self-reliance' to defend their country.
Responding to questions during the 'India Defense Conclave' 2022, Admiral Kumar said that by 2047, we will have a fully indigenous Navy, be it ships, submarines, aircraft, unmanned systems or weapons, etc. He said that we will be a completely 'self-reliant' navy. That is what we are aiming for.
Asked whether the supply chain of the Indian Navy has been affected due to the Russia-Ukraine conflict, he said, "As of now, there is no strong pressure on us. We have sufficient stock of spares. To date, no reduction has been made in terms of aircraft or aircraft deployment. We have taken several steps to take help from the industry of our country.
He said the Indian Navy began its "Indianisation campaign" in 1961, when the first small patrol boat, INS Ajay, was indigenously built in India. Since then, we have made a lot of progress.
