The pressure created by India has worked. Britain has finally approved the corona vaccine 'Covishield' made by the Serum Institute of India in its new travel rules, but a hitch has also been implicated with it. It is still mandatory for Indians going to Britain to remain quarantined. The UK has approved Covishield by modifying its travel policy, but it has not approved India's vaccine certificate, due to which there will be no significant change for Indian travelers on the ground.
As per the new guidelines, formulations of AstraZeneca Covishield, AstraZeneca Vazevaria, and Moderna Tequida have been approved. However, passengers taking both doses of Covishield are still required to remain in quarantine for 10 days. The UK government has said that it is working closely with India for the recognition of vaccine certificates.
Covishield has been made in India from the formula of the Corona vaccine made by Oxford-AstraZeneca. Although Britain exempted people taking the AstraZeneca vaccine from quarantine after changes to the Covid-19 travel rules, this arrangement was not in place for those taking Covishield, due to which the controversy increased. The Indian government also said on Tuesday that Britain has adopted a discriminatory attitude by not recognizing the corona vaccine Covishiled and will take retaliatory action if no solution is found.
What are the current travel rules in the UK?
There are currently three separate lists for travel to the UK, red, amber, and green. According to the danger, different countries have been kept on different lists. If a country is on the Red List, then the traveler coming from it is required to stay in the hotel quarantine for 10 days after reaching the UK and he has to undergo a corona test 2 days before the end of this period. People who have taken both doses of the vaccine also have to follow these rules. Violating the Quarantine Rule will result in a penalty of up to £10,000. Apart from this, if a passenger reaches the UK without a negative RTPCR test, he can be fined 5 thousand pounds.
Britain is going to change the rules from October 4
Britain has announced that from October 4, it will now have only one Red List, that is, all the lists will be merged and only the Red List will remain. Travelers from countries on the Red List will face restrictions on travel to the UK. For countries that will not be on the red list, the rules will depend on the vaccination status of the traveler.
Most of the people in India have got the Covishield vaccine. This is the Indian version of Britain's AstraZeneca vaccine. It has been made in India by the Serum Institute of India, yet India's exclusion from the list was considered discriminatory.
