But his innings was almost thwarted by Punjab's Mayank Agarwal on his own when the final over of the match was bowled by Marcus Stoinis. Punjab had to score 13 runs from six balls to win and Mayank Agarwal hit 12 runs from his three balls.
But Stoinis knew that even a ball can reverse luck. He took two wickets from the last two balls of the match and sent the match to the super over. Where his team easily won this match. For this reason, he was chosen as Player of the Match.
How did Mayank Agarwal miss the victory?
Mayank Agarwal came to start the innings for Punjab and he almost single-handedly took Punjab out of the crisis but also reached the threshold of victory. When the pressure was felt on the team, then the sixes and fours coming out of his bat kept the team in the face.
The Punjab team had lost five wickets for 55 runs in 10 overs but Mayank Agarwal kept one end. By playing in the air in the cover off the fifth ball of the 19th over, when he was caught out, he had scored 89 runs in 60 balls with the help of seven fours and four sixes. But his hard work lost water when his team lost the match.
So, whether Mayank Agarwal was the player that caused the Punjab team to lose, when they missed out on winning, it can only be said.
Who is most responsible for the defeat of Punjab
But in the defeat of the Punjab team, another player played a bigger role than them. He was the team's all-rounder Chris Jordan. What did Chris Jordan do in this entire match. Knowing this, you will begin to consider them as the biggest responsible for the defeat of Punjab.
Chris Jordan is the only all-rounder on whose bowling, Delhi Capitals batsmen scored 30 runs in the last over. Stoinis helped Delhi Capitals score beyond 150 with the help of two sixes and three fours.
Chris Jordan spent 56 runs in four overs. These runs made Punjab very heavy.
However, Jordan also got a chance to become a hero for the team in this match. When Marcus Stoinis had the challenge of scoring just one run on the last ball, but he played the ball coming at the leg stump directly into the hands of Kagiso Rabada. Due to which the match reached the super over.
Both team captains disappointed
However, in this case, the captains of both the teams were very disappointed. Punjab captain KL Rahul could not show any spark with his bat on both occasions. Moreover, how he did not field Mayank Agarwal in the Super Over is also being questioned.
It is true that Mayank Agarwal must be tired and will be in trouble due to the heat and humidity of Dubai but it was just a matter of six balls and he was seen in his full touch. But the decision not to feed them in the super over also cost Punjab dearly.
At the same time, Shreyas Iyer could not make much impact by captaining Delhi. Although he made 39 runs, but his team mostly appeared on the backfoot on most occasions. In the 19th over, he not only caught Mayank Agarwal off Kagiso Rabada's ball and the ball went beyond the boundary.
Shikhar Dhawan - Glenn Maxwell
Delhi Capitals expected a big innings from Shikhar Dhawan here but they disappointed. In the second over, a catch from Mohammad Shami was dropped by Punjab captain and wicketkeeper KL Rahul. But Dhawan came out here for the runs in a big casual fashion.
