A fierce war has been going on between Israel and Hamas for the past several days. During this period, many people have died in both the countries. Many people also died due to the attack on the hospital located in Gaza. At the same time, the French Military Intelligence Directorate (DRM) said on Friday that the explosion in the Gaza hospital was not the result of an Israeli missile attack, but was probably caused by a failed Palestinian rocket.
471 people died in the hospital explosion
Palestinian officials said Tuesday's explosion at al-Ahli al-Arabi Hospital killed 471 people. Gaza's health ministry blamed an Israeli airstrike, while Israel said the explosion was caused by a failed rocket launch by militants.
“There is nothing that allows us to say that it is an Israeli attack, but the most likely (scenario) is a Palestinian rocket that fired the incident,” DRM said.
Israel is not responsible for the explosion in Gaza hospital – DRM
A declassified US intelligence report seen by Reuters on Thursday said Israel was not responsible for the hospital explosion in Gaza. It was estimated that 100-300 people died in this attack.
According to the DRM, the attack left a crater, which they said was so small that it was not caused by an Israeli missile.
The most likely hypothesis is a Palestinian rocket, which exploded with a charge of about 5 kg, the DRM told reporters. He said Palestinian groups had small-caliber rockets with that kind of explosive charge.
The DRM does not usually release such information but decided to make its findings public on the instructions of President Emmanuel Macron given conflicting reports about who is responsible.
It ruled out various possibilities, including fragments from Israel's Iron Dome air defense system or intercepted missiles as the cause.
Hamas attacked Israel on October 7
Part of the analysis was based on open-source material, which included light structural damage to the hospital, some broken windows, a few destroyed vehicles, and the relatively limited presence of civilian goods at the blast site.
The DRM could not pinpoint the exact departure point of the failed rocket and did not place blame on any specific group. He declined to estimate the death toll but said it was likely to be less than 471, given the impact.
Israel has responded to an October 7 attack by Hamas gunmen who killed 1,400 Israelis by vowing to destroy the group, putting the 2.3 million people living in Gaza under siege. Attacks against the enclave have killed more than 4,100 people and left more than a million homeless. Israel is also preparing for a ground attack.
