Former Indian captain Rohit Sharma's bat performed well during the Australia tour, proving his worth to the team. Rohit played a match for the Indian team after 223 days. He was dismissed cheaply in Perth, but he scored a half-century in the Adelaide ODI, while in Sydney, he saved India from a clean sweep with an unbeaten century.
Rohit was named Player of the Series.
Rohit had not played any competitive cricket since the IPL 2025 in May. He trained hard before coming to Australia. He attributed his success in Australia to this preparation. Australia won the series against India 2-1, but Indian fans were delighted to see Rohit and Virat Kohli score runs. Rohit was named Player of the Series for his brilliant batting.
Rohit said, "I understood what I want to do with the rest of my career." Rohit told the BCCI website, "Ever since I started playing, I never had four to five months to prepare for a series, so I wanted to utilize it." I wanted to do things my way, on my terms, and it was really good for me because I understood what I needed to do for the rest of my career. It was important to use that time because, as I said, I've never had so much time before, and I prepared well at home. There are differences between the conditions here and back home, but I've been to Australia many times, so it was just about getting into that rhythm.
"So I give a lot of credit to the way I prepared before coming here. I gave myself a lot of time. It was very important because sometimes you need to understand that there's more to life than what you do professionally, but I had a lot of time, so I used it."
Rohit shared his thoughts on the match-winning partnership with his longtime partner, Virat Kohli. He said, "Obviously, it was a bit challenging with two new balls. It was a bit difficult to play in the beginning, but we knew that once the shine wore off, it would get a little easier." It was a great partnership with Kohli after a long time. I think we hadn't had a 100-run partnership in a long time. From a team perspective, it was good to have this partnership, considering our situation at the time.
Utilized the experience of playing with Kohli
He said, "Shubman Gill got out a little early, and we knew that the absence of the injured Shreyas Iyer put extra responsibility on the batsmen. We enjoyed every moment on the field, and we talked a lot. We have played a lot of cricket together. We understand each other very well. We have a lot of experience between us, and we used it well."
