On the one hand, the war in Russia-Ukraine is not taking its name, and on the other hand, Syria and Israel are once again seeing conflict. Israel launched a missile attack in Syria last night. According to information provided by the Syrian army, on Friday night, Israeli missiles targeted military sites south of the capital Damascus. Three people are reported to have died in this attack.

Israel had fired several missiles

The Syrian army has also said that several missiles were fired from the Israeli side. But the air defense has intercepted most of the missiles, which were fired from the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights.

Pro-government evening FM radio said the attack on the international airport in Damascus caused a fire near it, forcing two flights to be suspended.

The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights War Monitor said Israel targeted military sites in the Jamraya region as well as the southwestern countryside of Damascus and the international airport.

It said most of the missiles had reached their target, the 13th Israeli attack on Syria in 2022.

Israel destroys Iranian bases in Syria

Israel has been trying to destroy Iranian bases in Syria, where Tehran-backed forces, including Lebanon's Hezbollah, have established a presence since President Bashar al-Assad participated in the civil war in 2011.

On 11 May, a veteran Palestinian journalist for the Al Jazeera satellite channel was killed while covering an Israeli military operation in Jenin. Shirin Abu Aqleh's family, the broadcaster, the Palestinian Authority, and witnesses accused Israel of shooting a Qatari channel correspondent. Israel accused Palestinian militants of shooting the journalist but later backed down.

Israeli military officials said on Thursday that the military had identified a soldier's rifle that may have killed Abu Akleh, but said it could not be certain until the Palestinians changed the bullet for analysis.
