EPFO Members May Soon Withdraw PF Through UPI as Testing Gets Completed
In a major relief for millions of salaried employees across India, the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) is preparing to introduce a new facility that will allow members to withdraw their Provident Fund (PF) money directly through the Unified Payments Interface (UPI).
Union Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya confirmed that the testing phase for the UPI-based PF withdrawal system has been successfully completed. Once launched, this feature is expected to make EPF withdrawals significantly faster, simpler, and more convenient for subscribers.
EPFO PF Withdrawal Through UPI: What Will Change?
Currently, EPFO members are required to submit claim applications to withdraw their PF funds, a process that often takes time and involves multiple verification steps.
With the upcoming UPI integration, members will be able to:
Withdraw EPF funds directly into their bank accounts
Check the eligible PF balance available for withdrawal
Authorize transfers securely using their UPI PIN
Receive funds much faster than before
The new system aims to simplify the entire withdrawal process and improve digital accessibility for EPFO subscribers nationwide.
Faster PF Withdrawals Under Auto-Settlement System
The EPFO has already implemented an auto-settlement mechanism that electronically processes withdrawal claims within three days of application submission.
In another major update, the withdrawal limit under the auto-settlement system has now been increased from ₹1 lakh to ₹5 lakh.
This allows members to access funds quickly for important needs such as:
Medical emergencies
Higher education
Marriage expenses
Housing-related requirements
The move is expected to benefit millions of employees who rely on EPF savings during urgent financial situations.
EPFO to Launch WhatsApp-Based Services
To improve communication and customer support, the EPFO is also expanding its services through WhatsApp.
According to the Labour Ministry, members will soon be able to start conversations with EPFO simply by sending “Namaste” to the organization’s official WhatsApp number.
Key features of the upcoming service include:
24x7 support access
Automated responses for common queries
Services available in regional and local languages
Faster grievance handling and member assistance
Officials stated that the WhatsApp service could be launched within the next month.
EPFO Reports Significant Reduction in Pending Cases
The EPFO has also intensified efforts to reduce legal disputes and clear long-pending litigation cases.
According to official data:
Consumer court cases declined from 4,936 in April 2024 to 2,646 by March 2026
Total litigation cases dropped from 31,036 to 27,639 within one year
Cases pending for over 10 years reduced sharply from 8,539 to 4,665
The organization also conducted a nationwide campaign during February–March 2026 to accelerate the disposal of pending matters in Central Government Industrial Tribunals (CGITs).
Digital Transformation of EPFO Services
The introduction of UPI-based withdrawals and WhatsApp support reflects EPFO’s broader push toward digital transformation and faster service delivery.
Experts believe these initiatives could:
Reduce paperwork and processing delays
Improve transparency
Enhance user convenience
Strengthen digital financial inclusion
If implemented successfully, the UPI withdrawal system could become one of the biggest service upgrades in EPFO’s history.
The EPFO’s upcoming UPI-based PF withdrawal facility is expected to revolutionize the way employees access their Provident Fund savings.
With faster settlements, higher withdrawal limits, WhatsApp-based assistance, and reduced litigation, the EPFO is moving rapidly toward a more digital and user-friendly ecosystem.
Millions of EPFO subscribers are now eagerly waiting for the official rollout of the UPI withdrawal feature, which could make PF access quicker and more seamless than ever before.
