Operation Gadul of security forces against terrorists in Anantnag of South Kashmir continues for the fourth day on Saturday. The operation is going on amidst the dense forest and mountains of Gadul in Kokernag of the district. There are many natural caves here, in which terrorists find shelter. In such a situation, the security forces are taking swift action with modern technology and weapons. First, the target is being set with the help of drones and then the hideout is being destroyed with the help of bombs.
Terrorist seen running away in drone camera
A terrorist has been seen running in the drone camera. On Friday, suspected hideouts of terrorists were destroyed by planting several UBGLs, several rocket launchers, and IEDs. A complete command center has been set up on the spot. The army is destroying terrorist hideouts by maintaining some distance. Security forces destroyed about four hideouts of terrorists. About six natural caves have been destroyed. It is being told that there is a very big natural cave here, which is being targeted again and again. The Army has said that new generation weapons and equipment are being used to detect hidden terrorists, including attack-capable Heron drones and quadcopters.
The number of terrorists here is likely to be more than two or three. These also include Uzair Khan, who joined Lashkar-e-Taiba last year. Officials said that the terrorists have complete information about the area, which is benefiting the terrorists.
According to sources, 'Ordinary terrorists cannot drag out an encounter for so long. They are well-trained. They have good weapons. It is also suspected that some kind of security information may have been breached. Whatever may be the case, the security forces are carrying out the operation with full promptness and the terrorists will soon be eliminated.
When did the operation start?
Sources said that security forces received intelligence information about terrorists hiding in the Gadul forests of Kokernag on Tuesday night. A joint team of police, army, and CRPF launched a search operation, but the terrorists could not be traced. Then the team got information that the terrorists were on the top of a hill. The security forces moved ahead on Wednesday. The route they had to take to reach the top of the hill was quite challenging. It is very narrow. On one side it is surrounded by mountains and dense forest. There is a deep ditch on the other side.
The security forces started climbing the hill amidst dense forests. As soon as the team reached the cave, they got a clear glimpse of the terrorists hiding there. They started firing indiscriminately. The personnel were stranded on a narrow road with nowhere to go, resulting in injuries to two army officers and a police officer. Evacuating the injured officers from the encounter site was also quite challenging. He was taken to hospital by both other personnel and by helicopter, but could not be saved. During the initial firing, 19 RR Commanding Officer Colonel Manpreet Singh, Major Ashish Dhonchak, and DSP Humayun Bhat, son of former DIG Kashmir Ghulam Mohammad Bhat, were martyred.
More than 70 hours have passed since the encounter started. Given the darkness at night, high-beam lights have been installed. Police, CRPF, Army, and other security agencies have surrounded the hill. Sources said the explosives are being dropped using drones. The rocket launcher is being used. Soldiers and para commandos are firing.
The dead body of another soldier found on Friday
The operation started once again on Thursday morning. The officer said that civilians living near the encounter area were evacuated from the spot and taken to safe places. Along with this, all the layers of siege have been tightened, so that the terrorists are not able to escape. Terrorists are taking the help of dense forests and natural caves to hide, which are being continuously targeted. The operation continued throughout the day on Thursday. After this, on Friday, the mortal remains of another army soldier, who had gone missing since Thursday, were recovered from the encounter site.
