The foreign ministers of QUAD met on Friday under the ongoing Raisina Dialogue in New Delhi. In this meeting held a day after the G-20 meeting, Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong described India's role in the Indo-Pacific as important. He said- India is a big power in Indo-Pacific. Without India, it is difficult to bring any kind of change to this entire region.

At the same time, Japan's Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi said in this meeting that QUAD is not a military group. We don't want to exclude China either. Provided he is ready to follow international laws. Hayashi compared QUAD to the English music band The Beatles. He said that like the four musicians of the Beatles, we will also stay together and work together for many years.

If China follows the rules then we should also make it a member

Foreign Minister S Jaishankar also called QUAD very important. He said that QUAD is doing its work well in 2023 also because there is no burden on our leadership. Jaishankar reiterated India's old demand for new changes in the UN. He said that the other 3 countries also support our demand. An agreement has been made between the four countries to work on counter-terrorism.

After the QUAD foreign ministers meeting, it has been announced that from now on QUAD countries will fight together against terrorism as well. Working groups will be formed for this. The joint statement also condemned 26/11 and the terrorist attack in Pathankot.

Ukraine is a big issue for America even in the QUAD meeting

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken criticized Russia for the Ukraine war even in the QUAD meeting designed to reduce China's influence. He said that whatever Russia is doing in Ukraine if it is not stopped, it will send a wrong message to the world. Due to this, other aggressive countries will feel that they too can get away with such acts. During this comment of Antony, apart from Penny Wong of Australia, Foreign Minister S Jaishankar and Yoshimasa Hayashi of Japan were present.

Important for the future of the Indo-Pacific, but now Ukraine is in focus

Blinken said that our future lies in the Indo-Pacific. However, right now the focus is on Ukraine because of Russia. What is happening there is not just a matter for Ukrainians and Europeans, but for the whole world. Without naming China, Blinken said that the challenges facing the QUAD countries are increasing.

Know the QUAD which is an alliance of four countries

Quadrilateral Security Dialogue i.e. QUAD is a strategic alliance between four countries – America, India, Japan, and Australia. It was formed in 2007.

According to experts, the main undeclared objective of the formation of QUAD is to curb China's increasing dominance in the Indo-Pacific region i.e. the area between the Indian Ocean and the Pacific Ocean. Along with this, it also aims to save other countries of the Indo-Pacific region from Chinese dominance.

In recent years, China has not only increased its activities in the Indian Ocean to gain an edge over India but has also staked its claim on the entire South China Sea. These steps of his are seen as attempts to become a superpower. This is the reason why America is working with India on the expansion of QUAD so that these plans of China can be thwarted.

The purpose of QUAD is to keep important sea routes in the Indo-Pacific region free from any military or political influence. It is seen primarily as a strategic group created to reduce Chinese influence.

QUAD aims to work towards making the Indo-Pacific region free, open, and prosperous. QUAD not only focuses on security but also other global issues ranging from economic to cyber security, maritime security, humanitarian aid, disaster relief, climate change, pandemics, and education.
