Japanese diplomat arrested for spying in Russia, interrogated blindfolded; raging japan

Russia has detained a Japanese diplomat on charges of trying to obtain sensitive information. At the same time, Japan has denied the allegations of espionage. It also accused Russian officials of questioning in a derogatory manner and demanded an apology from Russia in the matter.

Russian agencies quoted the FSB as saying, "Japanese diplomat has been caught red-handed while taking sensitive information with money." He was getting information about Russia, which is prohibited from sharing with any other country in the Asia-Pacific region. Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) alleged that Vladivostok-based consul Motoki Tatsunori also tried to gain information on the impact of Western sanctions.

Japan alleges misbehavior

Japan's foreign ministry said an officer was detained on September 22 and questioned blindfolded. They were mistreated and we protest this and demand an apology. Russia's foreign ministry informed Japan's embassy in Moscow on Monday that the officer had been declared an "unwanted person" and asked to leave the country within 48 hours for his involvement in illegal espionage activities.

Summoning Russian ambassador expressed protest over the incident

Japan's Chief Cabinet Secretary Hirokazu Matsuno said Russia's action was completely baseless. Matsuno said Japan's Deputy Foreign Minister Takiyo Mori summoned the Russian ambassador to express strong protest over the incident. He has demanded a formal apology from the Russian government for the incident and steps should be taken to ensure that such an incident does not happen again.

It is worth noting that since Russia imposed sanctions on Japan on February 24 against launching military action in Ukraine, it has repeatedly described Japan as an "enemy" country. This is what Russia calls the US, the EU countries, and their Western allies as well.
