
Bhubaneswar, Feb 19 (IANS) After triggering panic in Sambalpur and Cuttack cities, jaundice is spreading in the capital city of Odisha with about 40 policemen afflicted by the water-borne disease, said an official Thursday.
As many as 40 policemen here have been detected as having jaundice. Out of them, five policemen in traffic management have joined duty after getting cured, said Police Commissioner R.P. Sharma who inspected the situation in the area.
Sharma, a doctor turned IPS officer, suspected that the policemen got infected due to contamination of water. According to sources, nearly 600 police personnel are presently staying at the reserve police barracks.
Public health director Kailash Dash said a team of doctors is inspecting the situation in the police barracks and would take steps accordingly. Over 135 persons have been detected with jaundice in Cuttack city, said Dash.
