The petitioner has appealed that the matter requires an urgent hearing and that the crisis be declared a national calamity. The Court has directed the petitioner to list the matter on Tuesday (January 10) for further hearing.
A petition was filed on behalf of Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati in the Joshimath case. On Monday, the petitioner's counsel sought an urgent hearing in the matter, to which a bench of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice PS Narasimha said, mention the petition again on Tuesday after following due process.
The petition claimed that the landslide in Joshimath was caused by large-scale industrialization and sought immediate financial assistance and compensation from the people of Uttarakhand.
