This tunnel project also includes a 4.1 km long twin-tube tunnel, which will be constructed at an altitude of about 15,800 feet on the Nimu-Padum-Darcha road.
This will provide all-weather connectivity to Leh. It will be the highest tunnel in the world. The Shinkun La tunnel will not only ensure fast and efficient movement of our armed forces and equipment but will also promote economic and social development in Ladakh.

A grand program was held in Lamochen (Drass) on Thursday on the 25th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas. In this, the heroic saga of the Kargil war heroes was narrated. Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi was the chief guest. All the top officers of the Army's Northern Command were also present.
The event began with a flypast by the Flying Rabbits of Microlight Node Gaya. Audiovisuals of the events of the Kargil War were played. The entire story of the Kargil war was narrated in it. The live narration against the backdrop of the mountains where fierce battles took place brought each battle scene alive.
The venue reverberated with tales of the bravery and sacrifice of the soldiers. The presence of war heroes, Veer Naris, Veer Maas, and relatives of the brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives during the war added to the grandeur of the event. In the Kargil War, soldiers of the Indian Armed Forces fought in harsh weather conditions in the most challenging terrains, resulting in the defeat of the enemy in the Drass, Kargil, and Batalik sectors.
