A terrorist has been killed in an ongoing encounter by security forces in Yedipora Pattan of Baramulla district of North Kashmir. Still, one to two terrorists are suspected to be hiding in the area. Firing continues between security forces and terrorists.
At the same time, the encounter that started between the security forces and the terrorists in the Chitragam area of Shopian around 2 pm has now ended. The terrorists hiding in the residential area here managed to escape by taking advantage of the darkness. However, the security forces still cordoned off the area and launched a search operation.
The identity of the terrorist killed in the Baramulla encounter is yet to be revealed. According to sources, all the terrorists hiding here are said to be local. During the encounter, the terrorists were given several opportunities to surrender, but when the terrorists continued the firing, the security forces killed the terrorist in retaliatory firing.
A police official said that after receiving information about the sighting of terrorists, security forces started a night search operation in Shopian and Baramulla. The presence of three to four terrorists was expressed in both areas.
Terrorists escape from Shopian: The process of firing has stopped in Shopian while the encounter between terrorists and security forces is still going on in Baramulla. The security forces are trying to make the terrorists surrender. Terrorists are being persuaded to lay down their arms with the help of local clerics.
Police said that based on a tip-off early today, two different teams of SOG, Army, and CRPF launched a search operation to nab the terrorists at Chitragam in District Shopian and Yedipora Pattan in Baramulla. As soon as the security personnel reached the bases, the terrorists hiding there started firing on them. Police sources said that the encounter started around 2 pm in Shopian. Intermittent firing continued from both sides throughout the night but by the time the sun rose, the firing from the terrorists stopped. When the security forces launched a search operation, it was found that the terrorists had escaped from the encounter site taking advantage of the darkness.
A police official said that two to three terrorists hiding in the residential area were successful in escaping but they are continuing their search for the terrorists by cordoning off the area. They suspect that terrorist is still present in this area. Presently the search operation is going on.
