Khelo Jharkhand: On the lines of the Khelo India campaign of the central government, now the Jharkhand government is also going to start the Khelo Jharkhand campaign. The Khelo Jharkhand campaign will start on November 5 and will continue till December 15, 2022. An official associated with the campaign said that the state government is preparing to organize a mega sporting event for over 50 lakh school students through Khelo Jharkhand.
This will help in the identification of budding talents at the school level itself. The official said that the best-performing students from primary school to higher secondary level will also be provided an opportunity to improve their sports and skills under Khelo Jharkhand.
The state has produced and produced many renowned international players including former India captain, wicket-keeper opener Mahendra Singh Dhoni, archers Deepika Kumari and hockey stars like Jaipal Singh Munda, Vimal Lakra, Nikki Pradhan, and Salima Tete. Jharkhand Education Project Council (JEPC) has been entrusted with the responsibility of organizing mega events for over 35,000 primary, middle, secondary, higher secondary, residential, and other category schools in the state like Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) and model institutions.
JEPC Director Kiran Kumari Pasi said that the sporting event aims to serve various purposes such as identifying budding talent and honing their skills and promoting sports activity in schools. Sports help in developing discipline in life, leadership quality, team spirit, decision-making ability, and competitiveness among students. At the same time, JEPC's State Program Officer and in-charge of physical education and sports Dhirsen A Soreng said that a total of 50,05,638 students from primary to higher secondary schools are expected to participate in the sporting event.
He said that Jharkhand has 123-day boarding centers, 34 residential sports training facilities, and a center of the Sports Authority of India. The competition will be organized in three categories including Athletics, Football, Hockey, Kabaddi, Volleyball, Wrestling, and Archery. In the first category, a school-level competition will be organized for the students of classes I to V. In the second category, there will be a competition between the students of middle school grades six to eight. It will be organized at the school, block, and district levels. In the third phase, there will be competition between secondary and higher secondary students, which will be conducted at the school, block, and district levels. In the end, a state-level competition will be organized. 19,446 primary schools, 13,660 secondary schools, and 1,826 secondary and 510 higher secondary schools will participate in the event.
