Climate Change: Union Minister Bhupendra's call to act according to the Paris Agreement

Posted on 17th Nov 2022 03:27 pm by rohit kumar

Union Forest, Environment, and Climate Change Minister Bhupendra Yadav said at the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Egypt that action on climate change cannot be limited to any region, fuel source, or gas source. He also said that all countries should take steps according to their national situation under the basic spirit of the Paris Agreement.

India had proposed on Saturday that the talks should also decide on reducing fossil fuels. The European Union (EU) supported the call on Tuesday. There are inevitable risks in the long journey to zero emissions, but the focus on urgent action gives us confidence that we will find a way forward given the changing circumstances, the environment minister said. At the same time, EU Vice President Frans Timmermans said, the group will support India's proposal to reduce the use of fossil fuels. agency

Developed partner countries have to be told that action is important, not promises

The Union Minister said, in COP-27, we should once again persuade our fellow developed countries that actions are important, not promises. Resolution upon resolution is made at every coop meeting, which is not necessarily beneficial. He said that development should be measured by action that leads directly to a reduction in emissions and developed countries should show the world how to do so.

India's taunt of rich countries

Rich countries are pressing for the inclusion of language like 'major emitter' and 'top emitter' in the draft UN Climate Summit (COP27) being held in Egypt, which is not acceptable to India. A member of the Indian delegation gave this information. He pointed out that developed countries want not just rich countries, which have historically been responsible for climate change, but all major emitters, especially top-20 emitters like India and China, to limit global temperature rise to 1.5 degrees Celsius. Drastically cut your emissions levels.
