Hearing on the petition filed against the bail of Ashish Mishra, the main accused in the Lakhimpur violence case was heard in the Supreme Court today. The counsel for the petitioners, Dushyant Dave, has sought a quashing of the Allahabad High Court's decision. Let us inform you that the Allahabad High Court had granted bail to Ashish Mishra. He was released from jail on February 15 after being granted bail.
Elaborate arrangements for the protection of witnesses
During the hearing, the counsel for the UP government also presented his side. The lawyer said that we have received the report of the SIT on Friday and it has been sent to the state government. He further said that we are relying on the affidavit. We are saying what we said in the Allahabad High Court. We have filed an affidavit saying that comprehensive protection has been provided to the witnesses. We have contacted all 97 witnesses and all of them said that there is no threat.
During the hearing held on Wednesday last week, the court had sought a reply from the Uttar Pradesh government by Monday on the report of the judge supervising the SIT investigation. UP government had opposed Ashish's bail
