Actor Praveen Kumar Sobti, who played the role of Bheem in BR Chopra's mythological show, 'Mahabharata', has breathed his last at the age of 74. Praveen Kumar Sobti was very famous among the people because of his stature. Apart from being an actor, he was also an athlete. He has won several medals in hammer and disc throw. Praveen, a former Deputy Commandant in BSF, has also represented India in the Asian and Commonwealth Games. He won the gold medal for India in the Asian Games held in Hong Kong. He also gained tremendous popularity in athletics during the 1960s and 70s.

Praveen became so popular because of his performances in the Asian Games and Olympics that BR Chopra expressed his desire to meet him for the role of Bheem. Praveen, who had never tried his luck in acting before, reached out to meet BR Chopra after learning about the character. On seeing Praveen Kumar's stature, he said, Bhima has been found. After some time he left AAP and joined BJP.
