According to the Panchang, the birth anniversary of Lord Mahavira, the 24th and last Tirthankara of Jainism, is celebrated every year on the Trayodashi date of Shukla Paksha of Chaitra month. According to the experts of Jainism, Lord Mahavira was born in 599 BC in the royal family of Kundalpur in Bihar. At the young age of 30, he had made renunciation his world by leaving the royal pomp and show, and by walking on this path till the end, he worked to show the right path to man. Let's know when Mahavir Jayanti will be celebrated this year, worship, and its main principles.

 

Mahavir Jayanti 2023 date

According to the Hindu Panchang, the Trayodashi Tithi of Chaitra Shukla Paksha will start on April 03 at 06.24 am and this date will end on March 04 at 08.05 am. In such a situation, Mahavir Jayanti will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 04, 2023.

 

How is Mahavir Jayanti Puja done?

The main principle of Jainism is to gain control over the senses and Lord Mahavira achieved victory over his senses after about 12 years of severe penance. On the auspicious occasion of Mahavir Jayanti, the people of Jain society organize Prabhat Pheri, rituals, and other spiritual programs. Also, on this special day, water is offered to the statue of Lord Mahavir from a gold or silver urn, and his teachings are listened to with full devotion.

 

Five major principles of Lord Mahavir (Teaching of Bhagwan Mahavir)

Lord Mahavir had given five main principles for the upliftment of man, which are also known as Panchsheel Siddhanta. Those principles are- Satya, Ahimsa, Asteya, Aparigraha, and Brahmacharya. Truth and non-violence is the first duty of man. On the other hand, asteya means not stealing, one attains spiritual peace and salvation. Aparigraha, that is, by not having attachment to the subject or object, a person abandons worldly attraction and walks continuously on the path of spirituality and a person who follows celibacy easily gets control over his senses.
