Many states are in debt due to free offers: The condition of states like Rajasthan-Bihar is bad, Center has spent 1.8 lakh crores on farmer fund

'Revdi culture' is making political headlines these days. 'Revdi Culture' means free offers from parties. Delhi CM Kejriwal has said that if his government is formed in Gujarat, he will make electricity free. Here Congress has also announced that if it comes to power in Himachal Pradesh, it will give 300 units of electricity free of cost. Let us tell you that after two months, assembly elections are to be held in Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu and Kashmir.

In fact, at the inauguration of Bundelkhand Expressway last month, PM Modi had said that efforts are being made to bring vote-collection culture in our country by distributing free revri. This is very dangerous for the development of the country.

After this, Kejriwal retaliated and said that to give free and good education to the children of our country, to get good and free treatment to the people...it is not called distributing free revdi. This work should have been done 75 years ago.

Recently, BJP MP Sushil Kumar Modi in Rajya Sabha had proposed in Parliament to abolish free offers. On which his party MP Varun Gandhi took him on the target. The matter has now reached the Supreme Court. The court has also commented.

Rajasthan

Free electricity is being provided for up to 50 units. Due to this a burden of 6 thousand crores is falling on the state.

More than 7 thousand crore rupees were spent on cooperative banks in the name of farmer loan waivers.

The state government is preparing to distribute free mobiles to 1.33 crore women. It is estimated to cost Rs 12,500 crore.

A free travel scheme is also applicable in Rajasthan Roadways for candidates appearing in Raksha Bandhan, Women's Day, and various government recruitment examinations. Due to this, the burden of about 140 crore rupees is being put on the exchequer.

Delhi

200 units of electricity, women traveling in government buses, and pilgrimage for the elderly.

Earlier, a scheme to provide 20 liters of water free per household was also launched in Delhi.

Punjab: 600 units of electricity free, one thousand rupees to every woman, it will cost 17 thousand crores.

Tamil Nadu: Amma scooter, laptop, breakfast in schools.

Madhya Pradesh: Electricity bill waiver of 6800 crores.

Andhra Pradesh: Highest subsidized state on electricity.

Karnataka: Free Laptop Scheme.

Uttar Pradesh: Free tablet/smartphone scheme. Under the Uttar Pradesh Berojgari Bhatta, educated unemployed youth are being given Rs 1000 to 1500 as unemployment allowance.

West Bengal

Mamta Banerjee started Maa Canteen in February 2021, in which food is given to the poor for 5 rupees. For this, Mamta allocated Rs 100 crore.

Under the Krishak Bandhu Yojana, an annual cash transfer of Rs 6,000 per acre is done to the poor farmers of the state.

The government also gives a monthly pension of Rs 1,000 to elderly farmers.

The central government is also not untouchable by 'Revdi culture'

Not only the state government but also the central government is not untouched by 'Revdi culture'. The PM Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme was started by the central government just before the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. In many states of the country, the first and second installments to the farmers had gone to the account just before the elections.

Similarly, under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, the central government is helping those who buy flats or houses financially. This scheme was started by the Center in the last term itself. It can also be made an election issue in the next election.

Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana (loan up to 10 lakhs), Ayushman Bharat (health insurance up to 5 lakhs), Ujjwala Yojana (free gas connection), PM Suraksha Bima Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima (up to Rs 20 and Rs 300 in premium of 2 lakhs) Insurance), Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (5 kg ration per person, free per month). Similar schemes are also in the Centre.

The matter of distributing free things reached the Supreme Court

The matter of distributing free things and starting such schemes if the government is formed has reached the Supreme Court. Recently, it was said by the court that such 'Revdi culture' in the states causes financial pressure in the country. Therefore some steps must be taken to eliminate it.

The court has also asked the Center to give its opinion on this matter. BJP leader and senior Supreme Court lawyer Ashwini Upadhyay had filed a petition in the court regarding the free schemes.

In the report of RBI, the situation of 5 states including Rajasthan, and Bihar is not good.

Recently a report was released by RBI. In which the economic condition of Bihar, Kerala, Punjab, Rajasthan, and West Bengal was said to be very bad. It was said that if these states do not improve their spending quality soon, they will fall into the debt trap.

These states have to spend a large part of their earnings on interest payments due to the huge amount of loans. Many states give 10% of their revenue as interest. In Punjab and West Bengal, this expenditure is more than 20 percent. It is also being said that these states have spent a lot of money on free schemes, due to which their financial condition has worsened.

Know expert opinion on the go

Former Union Finance Secretary Subhash Garg says that there is a poor section in the country. It is appropriate to reach out to them. For example, the disabled, elderly, or widows, whose government helps to meet the minimum needs. Such programs are justified.

Apart from this, some families are not capable. In such a situation, it is necessary to help them through rations or cash. The government scheme is also fine in terms of public health and public education. This benefits the weaker section.

Those who are not poor, fully capable, and who do not need help from the government, still have schemes that are being run for them. Be it a prosperous farmer or an urban, if they are getting help from the government, then it is not good. Whether it is free electricity-water or any other scheme.
