Monica's father went to the US in the 1970s

Monica Singh was sworn in on Friday as Judge of the Harris County Civil Court at Law No. 4 in Texas. Singh's father had migrated to the US in the early 1970s. As a trial attorney for over 20 years, Monica has been involved in numerous civil rights organizations at the local, state, and national levels.

It means a lot to me - Monica

Monika of Indian origin expressed great happiness at her position in the oath ceremony. It means a lot to me because I represent H-Town (Houston), so I am happy for today. On the other hand, Indian-American Judge Ravi Sandil, the state's first South Asian judge, presided over the ceremony. "This is a really big moment for the Sikh community," Sandil said. She said that Monika is now like an ambassador not only for Sikhs but for all women.
