Henley & Partners, the organization that issues passport rankings, has released the Henley Passport Index for 2022. Japan is once again the passport topper among 199 countries. Citizens of these countries can travel to 193 countries without a visa.
India has slipped 4 places to 87th in the rankings. India was ranked 83rd in the index released earlier this year. Indian citizens can travel visa-free to 60 countries. At the same time, the ranking of Pakistan's passport is worse than that of North Korea, Somalia, and war-torn Yemen.
In the ranking, North Korea's passport is at 105, Somalia at 107, and Yemen at 108th position. Whereas, the ranking of Pakistani passports is 109th. Pakistani citizens can travel visa-free only in 32 countries. After Pakistan, only 3 countries are left in the last position. Syria is ranked 110th, Iraq at 111, and Afghanistan at 112th.
First Know: How Ranking Is Determined
This ranking is released twice a year. The indexes are released for the first time in January and the second time in July. According to the website of Henley Passport Visa Index - Realtime data is updated throughout the year. Changes in visa policy are also taken into account. The data is taken from the International Transport Association (IATA).
The ranking is decided based on how many other countries the passport holder of a country can travel to without obtaining a prior visa. For this, he will not need to get a visa in advance.
Citizens of India can travel to 60 countries without a prior visa. Last year the number was 58. In July this month, Tajikistan allowed Indians to travel without prior visas.
