The Central Government told Parliament on Wednesday that there has been a decrease in the cases of terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir in the last few years. Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai told in the Rajya Sabha that since the abrogation of Article 370, 118 civilians have been killed in Jammu and Kashmir so far. Of these, 5 were Kashmiri Pandits. Apart from this, there were 16 other people from Hindu and Sikh communities. Minister of State Nityanand Rai also said that 5502 Kashmiri Pandits have been given government jobs in various departments of the Jammu and Kashmir government and no Kashmiri Pandit has migrated from the Valley after August 2019.

 

"The government has a zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism and the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir has improved significantly," he said. There has been a significant reduction in terrorist attacks, which has come down from 417 in 2018 to 229 in 2021.' And 118 civilians have been killed. “Out of the 118 civilians killed, 5 were Kashmiri Pandits and 16 others belonged to the Hindu and Sikh communities. No pilgrim has been killed during this period.

 

When asked how many Kashmiri Pandits residing in other parts of the country have been resettled in the Valley after August 2019. In response, the Union Minister said that under the Prime Minister's Development Package (PMDP), 5,502 Kashmiri Pandits have been given government jobs in various departments of the Jammu and Kashmir governments in the Valley. Responding to another question, Rai said that during the last few months, two incidents of attacks on Kashmiri Pandits were reported in Jammu and Kashmir, he said. in which one person has died and another has been injured.

 

Referring to the measures taken to ensure the security of minorities in the Kashmir Valley, Rai said that there has been strong security and intelligence grid, round-the-clock area domination, patrolling, and proactive operations against terrorists. Apart from this round-the-clock checking at the nakas, road safety check parties have also been deployed at strategic police stations to thwart any terrorist attack. He said that from the year 2018 to 30 June 2022, 108 civilians were attacked in Jammu and Kashmir.2019, to July 9, 2022, 128 personnel of security forces were attacked by terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir. And 118 civilians have been killed. “Out of the 118 civilians killed, 5 were Kashmiri Pandits and 16 others belonged to the Hindu and Sikh communities. No pilgrim has been killed during this period.
