Babita i.e. Munmun Dutta of TV's famous serial 'Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah' got relief from the Supreme Court on Friday. Proceedings in the cases registered against Munmun Dutta in four states have been put on hold for the time being. Apart from this, the Supreme Court has issued a notice on the demand for transfer of cases registered in many states of the country after the alleged casteist remarks made by Munmun Dutta through social media.
A vacation bench headed by Justice Hemant Gupta has stayed the proceedings of cases registered against Munmun Dutta in Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Madhya Pradesh. However, the proceedings on the case registered in Haryana will continue.
The counsel appearing for Munmun Dutta told the bench that his client is from West Bengal and the word 'bhangi' he had allegedly used was commonly used in the Bengali language. They were not aware that the word was 'casteist'.
The lawyer told the court that Munmun Dutta had unintentionally made this mistake and had withdrawn the post from social media within hours of realizing the mistake. But the Supreme Court said that the word that was used is known to all that it is 'casteist'.
However, the Supreme Court has issued a notice on the demand to transfer the separate cases registered at one place. Along with this, the court has stayed the proceedings of the cases registered in Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Madhya Pradesh. A case has been registered against Munmun Dutta under the SC-ST Act.
