After about a month and a half, the US space agency NASA is preparing to launch its Moon mission 'Artemis-1' again. The launch will take place on November 16 from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida between 11.34 am and 1.34 pm. This is NASA's third attempt. Earlier, an attempt was made to launch the rocket on 29 August and 3 September, but it was postponed due to a technical fault.
At a press briefing on Sunday, Artemis mission manager Mike Saraffin said, "The recent hurricane Nicole in Florida has loosened a part of the spacecraft. This can cause problems during lift-off. That's why our team is trying to solve this problem." Reviewing it." If for some reason the rocket does not launch on November 16, the new date could be November 19 or 25.
What is Artemis-1 Moon Mission?
America is preparing to send humans once again to the moon through its Moon mission Artemis after 53 years. Artemis-1 is the first step in this direction. This is a test flight for the main mission, in which no astronaut will be sent. With this flight, scientists aim to find out if the conditions around the moon are right for astronauts. Also, whether the astronauts will be able to return to Earth safely after going to the moon.
NASA's 'Space Launch System (SLS) Megarocket' and 'Orion Crew Capsule' will reach the Moon. Astronauts usually reside in the crew capsule, but this time it will be empty. This mission is of 42 days 3 hours and 20 minutes, after which it will return to Earth. The spacecraft will travel a total of 20 lakh 92 thousand 147 kilometers.
Understand the complete Artemis mission in three points...
1. University of Colorado Boulder professor and scientist Jack Burns says that Artemis-1's rocket is 'heavy lift' and has the most powerful engines ever compared to rockets. It will go to the Moon's orbit, release some small satellites and then itself will establish itself in orbit.
2. Artemis-2 is planned to be launched around 2024. Some astronauts will also go on it, but they will not step on the moon. They will come back only by rotating in the orbit of the moon. However, the duration of this mission will be longer. At present, the confirmed list of astronauts has not been revealed.
3. After this the final mission Artemis-3 will be dispatched. The astronauts going in it will land on the surface of the moon. This mission can be launched around 2025 or 2026. For the first time, women will also be part of the Human Moon mission. According to Burns, a person of color (a person of a different race than white) will also be a crew member. They will research the water and ice present at the South Pole of the Moon.
How much did the Artemis mission cost?
According to an audit by the NASA Office of the Inspector General, from 2012 to 2025, the project will cost $ 93 billion, or Rs 7,434 billion. At the same time, each flight will cost $ 4.1 billion i.e. 327 billion rupees. So far, $ 37 billion i.e. Rs 2,949 billion has been spent on this project.
