Amid the ongoing controversy over the NEET exam, the Supreme Court once again heard the case on Thursday. During this, the Center told the apex court that the decision of the National Testing Agency (NTA) to give grace marks to 1,563 candidates of NEET-UG 2024 has been withdrawn. Such candidates will be given the option to take the exam again on June 23. Its results will come on June 30. In such a situation, now the students will have the option whether they want to take the exam again or want to participate in the counseling without grace marks.
No ban on counseling
During the hearing, the Supreme Court reiterated that it will not stop the counseling of NEET-UG 2024. The court said that counseling will continue. We will not stop it. If the exam is held, everything will be done in the right way, so there is nothing to fear.
What did the Center tell the court?
The government-NTA told the Supreme Court that a committee was formed to review the results of over 1,563 candidates who were tasked with reviewing the 'grace marks' given to them to compensate for the loss suffered while appearing in NEET-UG. The committee has decided to cancel the scorecards of 1,563 NEET-UG 2024 candidates who were given grace marks. These students will be given the option to appear for the exam again. The exams will be held on June 23 and the results will be declared before June 30.
The court took on record the NTA's argument
The Supreme Court took on record the NTA's argument that the re-examination of 1563 students will be notified today itself and it will most likely be held on June 23. The results will be declared before June 30, so that the counseling to begin in July is not affected.
