After the recent death of a 24-year-old youth from the Nipah virus in Kerala, the government has come into action. The Kerala government has created several containment zones in Malappuram and imposed restrictions on them. Five wards of two panchayats in Malappuram district have been declared containment zones and instructions have been given not to gather in large numbers of people.

Shops will be closed by 7 pm.

Seeing the rapid spread of the Nipah Virus, the district authorities have asked the shops in the containment zone to be closed by 7 pm. Cinema halls, schools, colleges, madrasas, Anganwadis, and tuition centers will remain closed in the containment zone.

The number of people attending weddings will be reduced

Meanwhile, partial restrictions have been imposed in Malappuram district. Officials have asked people to wear masks in public places. Instructions have also been issued to reduce the number of people attending weddings, funerals, and other events in the district.

175 people in isolation

State Health Minister Veena George has confirmed that the 24-year-old man who died on September 9 was infected with the Nipah virus. George said on Monday that there are currently 175 people in the contact list of the deceased patient, of which 74 are health workers. All have been kept in isolation.

The fever survey started in many places.

The Health Department has formed 66 teams and a fever survey has been started within a radius of three kilometers of the deceased's house. A boy from Malappuram died on July 21 while undergoing treatment for a Nipah infection. This was the first confirmed case of Nipah infection in the state this year. Kozhikode district has seen Nipah outbreaks in 2018, 2021, and 2023, and Ernakulam district in 2019.

The presence of Nipah virus antibodies has been found in bats in Kozhikode, Wayanad, Idukki, Malappuram, and Ernakulam districts.
