The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) are going to get benefits in the Rajya Sabha elections this year. Both the parties have scored massive victories in the latest round of assembly elections. The BJP won four of the five states, while the AAP came to power in Punjab. In the Rajya Sabha, the Congress will be reduced to only 27 seats out of 34, its lowest number.

BJP will cross 100 seats for the first time in the Upper House and is set to reach 104 seats from the current tally of 97. The NDA will reach 122 seats in the 243-seat house by the end of the year. It will win three seats in Uttar Pradesh and snatch four seats from the Congress in Assam, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand this year.

Elections have been announced for five Rajya Sabha seats in Punjab and it is understood that the Aam Aadmi Party can win all these seats. With this, the number of AAP members in the Upper House can be increased to eight. There are three members of the Aam Aadmi Party in the Rajya Sabha and all of them are from Delhi. You will benefit from victory in Punjab.

Elections for five seats in Punjab for Rajya Sabha

Elections to the Rajya Sabha will be held twice for five seats from Punjab, first for three seats and then for two seats. The retiring members of Punjab's Rajya Sabha include Pratap Singh Bajwa and Shamsher Singh Dulo from Congress, Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa and Naresh Gujral from Akali Dal, and S Malik from BJP. The tenure of two other members Balwinder Singh Bhundar from Akali Dal and Ambika Soni of Congress will be completed in July and both these seats can go to AAP's account.

13 seats of Rajya Sabha going to be vacant in six states

Elections will be held on March 31 for the 13 seats going to fall vacant in the Rajya Sabha in six states of the country. The term of eight Rajya Sabha members from Assam, Himachal Pradesh, Kerala, Nagaland, and Tripura will end on April 2 and the term of five members from Punjab will end on April 9. Because of this, these seats are getting vacant. "There will be one election for three out of the five seats falling vacant in Punjab, while there will be a separate election for two seats as these seats belong to two different biennial cycles," the Election Commission said in a recent statement.
