The case of alleged irregularities in the purchase of 1000 low-floor buses in Delhi was handed over to the CBI. Now CBI will investigate this matter.
Let us tell you that the Aam Aadmi Party government had signed a contract with two companies to buy 1000 low floor buses, but there were allegations of malpractices in this process. The Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) of Delhi Police had written a letter to the Vigilance Director of the Transport Department in this regard, but did not get a reply even after a month. Now the CBI has been allowed to investigate the matter.
Earlier, the BJP had alleged that more than the cost of the buses would be spent on their maintenance for three years. Whereas, according to the terms of purchase, the responsibility of maintaining these buses for three years should be of the supplier companies only. Vijender Gupta and other BJP MLAs had complained to the ACB in March. They allege that ignoring the terms of the tender, it has been decided to pay Rs 350 crore every year for maintenance to the companies supplying the buses. Whereas, this payment should not be made during the warranty period of three years.
The BJP had demanded a CBI inquiry into the low floor bus purchase case on June 21, 2021, two months ago. BJP leaders say that there has been an irregularity in the procurement process of low-floor buses. For this, the Transport Minister of Delhi Kailash Gehlot and the Managing Director of Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) is responsible. Both should resign from their posts. He said that the Delhi government is trying to suppress the matter and hence is not allowing the Anti-Corruption Branch (ABC) of Delhi Police to investigate. The matter will be reported to the Central Vigilance Commission.
Earlier, Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly Ramveer Singh Bidhuri had said that today there is a need for 15,000 buses in Delhi, but in the last six years, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government has not been able to buy a single bus. At present, the life of DTC buses plying on the roads of Delhi will be completed by September. As per the orders of the National Green Tribunal and the Supreme Court, these buses will not be able to be taken on the roads after September. No concrete steps are being taken to overcome the shortage of buses. There is a need to procure buses transparently.
