Asia Cup: 13 matches to be held in 19 days, from team to schedule; Know everything about the tournament in 10 questions

The 16th edition of the Asia Cup is all set to begin on Wednesday (August 30). To be hosted by Pakistan, this tournament will be organized in two countries. The tournament took a major turn after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) refused to send its players to Pakistan. Along with Pakistan, it will also have matches in Sri Lanka. Four matches will be played at the home ground of host Pakistan. At the same time, nine matches will be held in Sri Lanka.

The Asia Cup will begin on August 30. The final match will be played on 17 September.

On which grounds will the Asia Cup matches be played?

The Asia Cup matches will be played at the Multan Cricket Stadium in Multan, Pakistan, and the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. Apart from this, matches will also be held at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy, Sri Lanka, and R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

This time the teams of India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Nepal will play in the Asia Cup.

Group-A has India, Pakistan, and Nepal. Whereas, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan are in Group-B.

 

What is the format of the Asia Cup?

All the teams will play one match each against each other in the group round of the Asia Cup. The top two teams in both groups will advance to the Super-4 round. There all four teams will play against each other. Two teams from the Super-4 will reach the finals.

 

When and with whom will India's first match take place?

India's first match will be against Pakistan on September 2. The match will be played at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy.

India has won the Asia Cup seven times, the most. Sri Lanka has become champion six times and Pakistan twice. Bangladesh's team has played the final thrice, but they have not got a chance to lift the trophy.
