
The price of flour has increased significantly in Pakistan, which is facing an economic crisis. People are seen standing in long lines to buy it. In this episode, there was a stampede during the sale of subsidized flour by the Sindh government. The father of seven children died in this. A similar rush is being seen in all parts of Sindh to buy flour.
Flour was being sold for Rs 65 a kg
The incident took place near the commissioner's office in the Mirpurkhas district. There were two mini trucks selling flour outside Gulistan-e-Baldia Park. These mini trucks were selling flour bags of 10 kg each at the rate of Rs 65 per kg. It is reported that on seeing the mini trucks loaded with flour, a huge crowd of people gathered. Everyone started jostling each other to buy first, fearing they would run out of stock.
Demand for action against officials
According to the police, in the sudden stampede, 40-year-old laborer Har Singh Kolhi fell on the road and people passing over him moved on. Kolhi's relatives staged a sit-in for five hours outside the Mirpurkhas Press Club, demanding action against the officials of the Food Department. At the same time, a stampede broke out outside a flour mill in Sakrand town of Shaheed Benazirabad while buying cheap flour at the government rate. Three women including a minor girl were injured in this. The prices of wheat and flour have reached a very high level amidst the ongoing economic crisis in Pakistan.
