The government has blamed Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and pro-Pakistan elements for the violence against the minority Hindu community during the recent Durga Puja in Bangladesh. Information and Technology Minister in the Hasina government M Hasan Mahmood made this claim in Kolkata on Thursday. Addressing the media at the Press Club here, the minister said, "People of Bangladesh and West Bengal know very well who is behind this. Some parties like BNP and Jamaat believe in communalism and want to create instability. He also revealed that the Quran in the Durga pandal was not kept by any Hindu but by a Muslim person.
The Bangladeshi minister said, "You all know that even during the country's freedom struggle (1971) there were some people who supported the Pakistani army. Don't forget that their descendants are still there." The incident of alleged desecration of the Quran in Bangladesh led to attacks on Hindus. Durga Puja pandals and temples were vandalized at many places and people belonging to the minority community were brutally beaten up, in which many lost their lives. At least 5 people died in the clashes and many were injured. Based on the CCTV footage, it was found that a person named Iqbal Hussain had hatched this conspiracy in Kamila. Police officials said that the accused confessed to keeping the Quran in Hanuman's lap.
Holding the BNP's communal politics and Pakistan responsible, the minister said that the Bangladesh government has taken strict action against all the culprits. "For those who do communal politics in the BNP, who follow the ideology of Pakistan, religion comes first," Mahmood said. This is the difference between them and us. Bangladesh government has taken strict action against all the culprits after the communal incident.
Mahmood said, "When elections come, these people give anti-India and anti-Hindu slogans and say that you people should not vote. These people have done this incident for political purpose.” The minister said that atrocities on Hindus tried to spread riots across the country. He said, "No Hindu had kept the Quran in the puja pandal. In the end, the investigation revealed that a Muslim named Iqbal had done this under provocation. Agencies are investigating and strict action will be taken.
