The contempt petition against Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will be heard in the Islamabad High Court on Monday. In 2018, the court sentenced Nawaz Sharif to seven years in prison in the Al-Azizia Steel Mills corruption case. He was sentenced to a total of 11 years in prison and fined 8 million pounds (1.3 billion rupees). However, in 2019, the Lahore High Court (LHC) stayed his sentence and allowed Nawaz to go abroad for treatment. Nawaz Sharif left for London on 19 November 2019 and has never returned to the country since then.
