Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra has reached Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. Today is the second day of his visit to UP. It has been 35 days since the journey started. Rahul Gandhi attended Baba Vishwanath's court for the fourth time. For the first time, a Congress leader will undertake a political journey on the Rath Yatra route from Godaulia. No leader including Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, and Rajiv Gandhi has made any political visit to Banaras on this route.

Such was the connection of Congress with Varanasi

The country's first Prime Minister Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru and former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi had a deep attachment to Banaras. Pandit Nehru made several visits to Banaras from 1910 to 1950. Even after becoming the Prime Minister, he kept coming to Banaras. Indira Gandhi also made political and religious visits to Banaras.

Rahul Gandhi's great-grandfather Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru first came to Banaras in 1910 with his father Pt. Motilal Nehru. After this, he attended the foundation ceremony of Kashi Vidyapeeth in 1921. After this, he reached Banaras in 1942 and 1946. After independence, Pt. Nehru came to Kashi as Prime Minister in 1950 and 1952.

The visit of Rahul's grandmother and former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi to Banaras during the 1980 elections was historic. Pro. Satish Kumar Rai said that his meeting was scheduled for 8 pm on 31 December 1979. She arrived at 10 am on January 1, 1980, 14 hours late. Despite the rainy and cold weather, people remained to wait for him.
