Rahul Gandhi's great-grandfather Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru first came to Banaras in 1910 with his father Pt. Motilal Nehru. After this, he attended the foundation ceremony of Kashi Vidyapeeth in 1921. After this, he reached Banaras in 1942 and 1946. After independence, Pt. Nehru came to Kashi as Prime Minister in 1950 and 1952.
The visit of Rahul's grandmother and former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi to Banaras during the 1980 elections was historic. Pro.
