Many children lost their parents during the coronavirus infection. To help such children, the government launched the 'PM Cares for Children Scheme'. Now, according to the officials, 51 percent of the applications received under this scheme have been rejected.

Which children will get help under the scheme?

The PM Cares for Children Scheme (PMCCS) was first announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 29 May 2021. Under this, help is to be provided to those children whose both parents or legal guardians have died due to the coronavirus epidemic. The cutoff date fixed by the Modi government to decide the beneficiaries of this scheme was from 11 March 2020 to 29 May 2023. That is, during this period, the children who lost their parents or legal guardians will be given all the help available under the PM Cares for Children Scheme.

More than nine thousand applications received

According to official figures, a total of 9,331 applications were received from 613 districts of 33 states and union territories under the scheme.

According to the data shared by the official of the Ministry of Women and Child Development, only 4,532 applications from 558 districts of 32 states and union territories were accepted. While 4,781 were rejected. At the same time, 18 applications are pending. No specific reason has been given by the ministry for rejecting these applications.

Most applications received from these states

The states from which the highest number of applications were received are Rajasthan, Maharashtra, and Uttar Pradesh. Here 1,553, 1,511, and 1,007 applications were received respectively. 855 applications were accepted from Maharashtra, 210 from Rajasthan, and 467 from Uttar Pradesh.

What is the PM Cares for Children Scheme?

It is worth noting that this scheme aims to ensure continuous comprehensive care and protection of children, take care of their health through health insurance, empower them through education, and make them self-reliant by providing financial assistance till the age of 23. A portal named pmcaresforchildren.in was also launched by the central government for the registration of children. The account of all the help for the children was also obtained from this portal.
